Some time back reader Jim Sloss submitted the following comments, but I didn't have a good place to post them until I got the forums up and running.
Sorry about that, Jim. At any rate - here are the updates on Matchless Star research that you sent me:
Every other reference refers to the color amethyst for various stars, when
in actuality Matchless did not call them amethyst. The color is called
purple. This needs to be fixed in the list of colors for stars. Please see
the attached picture from a matchless box.
Matchless designated the color clear as "crystal". To be more proper this
should be fixed also.
Also, tree topper stars were not designated by a 3 digit series number as we
earlier thought (300 series). They were referenced by a 4-digit number.
Please see the attached picture of a box containing a tree topper star.
This is the only one I've ever seen with the series number.
The "purple" box is mine.
There will be more coming. One thing we are trying to get answers about is
the European stars. These stars were made using Czech crystal. They are
not polished but pressed glass points. It is not certain if the same glass
factories made these crystals or not as use in the American stars.

Vic Bovee, who's submitted photos for other topics, just sent me this photo of some of his matchless stars lit:
Here are some of his matchless stars and bubble lights on his Christmas tree:

Re: Matchless Star Comments
A reader wants to know if anyone is making repros today. SOMEONE was making them in the 2003-2004 range, because they were turning up on eBay at vintage (high) prices. But I haven't seen any affordable repros lately.
Thanks,
Paul
